    S. S. Van Dine. The "Canary" Murder Case. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1927. First edition. Octavo (7.375 x 5.125 inches; 188 x 130 mm.). [2], [xii], 343, [1, blank], [1, ad], [1, blank] pages. Publisher's black cloth, spine and front board lettered and ruled in green; in restored original first-state dust jacket with the forthcoming Philo Vance title advertised as "The Taxicab Murder Case" on the rear flap, five-inch flaps. Spine just barely askew; spine lettering very faintly dulled; a very short closed tear to at each of the spine ends; three tiny divots to the front boards. Faint offsetting to both of the free endpapers; embossed ownership stamp to the upper margin of the title-page. Dust jacket rubbed; spine panel lightly browned; light tidemark at each of the flap folds; a few tiny interior holes; subtle restoration at the spine ends, fold edges and along the upper edge of the front panel. A near fine copy in a presentable sophisticated dust jacket. The second Philo Vance mystery. A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. Source for the 1929 film adaptation, starring Louise Brooks and William Powell, directed by Mal St. Clair and Frank Tuttle. From the KoKo Collection.
