    More Information: Robert Reeves. Dead and Done For. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1939. First Edition. Octavo (7.3125 x 4.9375 inches; 186 x 125). [x], 288, [1, blank], [1, note on the type], [4, blank] pages, second- and third-to-last gatherings on brighter paper stock. Publisher's light red cloth, spine and front board lettered and elaborately stamped in dark blue, publisher's device stamped in dark blue on rear board; top edge of the text block stained blue, others untrimmed; plain endpapers; in original dust jacket, priced $2.00. Spine ends and corners just a trifle worn. Top edge of the text just barely dusted. Dust jacket folds rubbed; a couple faint smudges to the front and spine panels; touch of crimping to the bottom edge. Nearly fine.  The debut novel of one of the last significant writers published in Black Mask and first the appearance of his most important character, Cellini Smith. "Dead and Done For is a superior first novel, firmly in the hardboiled tradition." (John L. Apostolou, "The Short Career of Robert Reeves"). From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.
