[x], 288, [1, blank], [1, note on the type], [4, blank] pages, second- and third-to-last gatherings on brighter paper stock. Publisher's light red cloth, spine and front board lettered and elaborately stamped in dark blue, publisher's device stamped in dark blue on rear board; top edge stained blue; in original dust jacket. Spine ends and corners rubbed; top corner of rear board softly bumped. Dust jacket rear panel lightly rubbed with some mild soiling to white background and author portrait; some trace very light edgewear. A stunning, nearly fine, copy. The debut novel of one of the last great writers published in Black Mask and first appearance of his most important character, Cellini Smith.
