    Robert Browning. The Ring and The Book. London: Smith, Elder and Co., 1868-1869. First edition, first issue. Four twelvemo volumes (spines labeled I, 2, III, 4). Volume I - 245, [1, ad] pages, Volume 2 - 251 pages, Volume III - 247 pages, Volume 4 - 235 pages. Uniformly bound in dark green cloth, ruled in black with gilt-lettered spine, beveled boards. Corners bumped, minor edgewear, head and foot of spines pushed, boards somewhat rubbed. Brown coated endpapers, hinges just starting. Internally generally clean; minor intermittent foxing, edges untrimmed, top edges darkened, minor edgewear. Housed in custom clamshell case in dark blue with black leather spine, stamped in gilt; case with some foxing, corners bumped, somewhat rubbed. Very good.
