Frontispiece and fourteen additional plates by Thomas Mitchell Pierce and F. D. Steele. Publisher's dark blue cloth, spine and front stamped in gilt, front with pictorial paper label; top edge of text block; later dust jacket. Binding worn and bumped at edges; spine ends pushed; boards rubbed. Endpapers and text block softly dulled; bookplate and evidence of previous label removed at front pastedown; rear hinge just starting to crack at foot; occasional mild, marginal staining scattered throughout interior. Jacket chipped at spine and flap fold ends, with a handful of tears; dulling and foxing along spine panel, folds, and edges; two small holes at spine panel; general light rubbing and soiling. Good. Housed in a custom chemise and slipcase. With a tipped-in autograph letter signed by the author. Queen's Quorum 29.
