    Rex Stout. How Like a God. New York: The Vanguard Press, 1929. First edition, "Discussion Copy" of Stout's first book. Inscribed by Stout on page [1]: "For / Evelyn B. Byrne- / with all good wishes / Rex Stout / October 8-1970-." Octavo. [iv], [1]-313, [3, blank] pages. Publisher's full purple cloth, front board and spine stamped in gilt (front board with "Discussion Copy" in gilt). In the original publisher's dust jacket, with "Discussion Copy" on the front jacket panel. Jacket spine and board edges sunned and rubbed. Minor soiling, offsetting to endleaves. Jacket spine toned. Some rubbing, mild wear, soiling to jacket, front jacket flap creased at upper corner. Still a near fine copy of this rare title.

    On the back of the jacket panel, the publishers state that the "Discussion Copy" is intended to spread word-of-mouth publicity about the book in order to increase sales.
