Publisher's full beige cloth; front and spine lettered in dark yellow with pale yellow decorative lines. Original illustrated dust jacket. All edges trimmed; top edge stained yellowish brown. Very small amount of soiling, toning to top and bottom edges of binding. Bookseller's ticket at front pastedown; very light age toning to edges of text block. Dust jacket spine panel sunned; barely perceptible edge wear at extremities; some soft, light creases at flap folds. Else a fine book in a fine jacket. A collection of short stories, many of them early, with an introduction by Chandler. Concludes with his critical essay, "The Simple Art of Murder," which occupies itself primarily with crime and detective fiction but also touches on literature, culture and society more broadly.
