Original illustrated dust jacket. All edges trimmed. Mild shelf wear and dust-soiling at extremities of binding. Normal age toning to edges of text block. Dust jacket worn at spine and flap fold ends with some chipping; a bit of wear along edges and joint and flap folds, with small hole at front flap fold and a few short tears starting from top and bottom edges; tape repair at bottom of spine panel. Near fine book in a very good dust jacket. "Customer" reads as such at the first line of page four. Includes Chandler's critical essay, "The Art of Murder," which primarily discusses detective and crime fiction, but also touches on literature, culture and society at large. Jacket slightly rubbed; extremely mild wear to joint and flap folds; one very short tear resulting from a nick at rear panel near top of flap fold. A fine book in an about fine dust jacket.
