A First Edition of Philip Marlowe's
    Second Adventure

Raymond Chandler. Farewell, My Lovely. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1940. First edition of Raymond Chandler's second Philip Marlowe mystery. Octavo. [viii], 275 pages. Publisher's reddish orange cloth lettered and decoratively stamped in blue, dark blue topstain, in original dust jacket. Extremities rubbed, nearly imperceptible spine lean. Dust jacket spine panel faintly dulled with small scuff marks, including one small puncture, to lower third, spine ends worn, light toning to edges and flap folds. Very good. Source material for the landmark film noir, Murder, My Sweet (RKO Radio Pictures, 1944), directed by Edward Dmytryk and featuring song-and-dance-man-turned-action-star Dick Powell in the first of many big-screen Philip Marlowe portrayals.
