Publisher's yellow cloth, front board with facsimile signature stamped in dark green, spine stamped in purple in brown, publisher's device stamped in brown on the rear board; top edge of the text block stained red, others trimmed; in the original illustrated dust jacket. Small brown spot toward head of front joint; lower spine end slightly pushed. Light toning to unstained edges of text block; top edge a touch dusty. Bookseller's ticket at rear pastedown. Very mild rubbing and edge wear to exposed panels of jacket; small burn hole at head of front joint, slightly browned at edges; tiny amount of paper loss at heads of flap folds. Aside from the small burn on the jacket and corresponding mark on binding, a near fine copy in a bright, clean dust jacket. From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.
