    Description

Raoul Whitfield. The Virgin Kills. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1932. First edition. Octavo (7.375 x 5 inches; 188 x 127 mm.). [2, blank], [vi], 270, [1, blank], [1, note on the type], [4, blank] pages. Publisher's orangish yellow cloth, spine lettered in blue and stamped in blue and brown, author's facsimile signature stamped in brown on the front boards, publisher's device stamped in brown on the rear board; top edge stained brown, fore-edge rough-trimmed; in original dust jacket. Spine just barely skewed; backstrip faintly dulled; rear joint slightly discolored; occasional very light soiling. Text block sagging just a hair; very slightly shaken; occasional minor over-opening; previous owner signature on the front pastedown. Dust jacket spine panel faded; edges lightly worn with occasional minor chip or small closed tear; rear panel with some light marginal soiling; somewhat crude paper repair to verso of rear panel; verso faintly discolored around spine panel. Still, an attractive, very good copy. From the KoKo Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
