    More Information:

Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac. The Woman Who Was No More. New York: Rinehart & Company, [1954]. First U. S. edition. Octavo. [iv], 202, [2, blank] pages. Publisher's grayish-blue cloth, spine lettered in silver and pink, in original dust jacket. Very gentle spine lean; boards very slightly bowed; extremities lightly worn. Page margins lightly browned, as often is the case. Dust jacket edges lightly worn with minor paper loss at upper edge of front panel and foot of spine; light, faint foxing to rear panel; price-clipped. An attractive very good copy. From the KoKo Collection.

According to Susan Hayward, Henri-Georges Clouzot's wife, Vera, convinced him to acquire the rights to adapt the novel. He did, thus preventing Hitchcock (purportedly by mere hours) from making the film. Clouzot's adaptation was released in 1955 and is considered among his greatest achievements. Hitchcock bought the rights for Bouleau and Narcejac's follow-up novel, D'Entre les morts, which he turned into Vertigo in 1958. Hayward. Les Diaboliques (Urbana: University of Illlinois Press, [2005]), p. 13.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
