First edition. Inscribed by the author to Dennis Wheatley, with his bookplate. [And:] It Couldn't Matter Less. London: Collins, 1941. First edition. Signed by the author. With bookplate of Dennis Wheatley. Four volumes. Octavo. Various paginations. Publisher's cloth, spines lettered, Matter Less front stamped in green; all text block edges trimmed; original illustrated dust jackets. Knave and Drink cloth discolored, particularly at backstrips; feet of spines lightly pushed, with bump to head of Matter Less; Curves and Matter Less boards slightly soiled; mild wear along bottom edges; handful of corners tapped. All text block edges aside from Matter Less foxed; a couple of volumes with light foxing or thumbsoiling at endpapers. General light wear with occasional nicking at jacket spine panel ends; mild rubbing and soiling to exposed panels; occasional trace of minor edge wear to front and rear panels, including a pair of short tears near each end of front panel fold of Drink; a bit of light wear and some soft creasing to flap folds. A few spots of faint foxing and rubbing at jacket versos. Near fine.
