First edition, inscribed by the author to his parents on the bastard title: "Dear Ma and Dad - / For such a skinny / book they took a long time putting it / out ... but I hope is the beginning / of luck for all of us ... Better not let / any of your children read it! / Love - your son / Mickey." Octavo (7.9375 x 5.5 inches; 201 x 140 mm.). 218, [6, blank] pages. Publisher's black paper-covered boards, front board and spine lettered in red, in original dust jacket. Boards stained white (potentially molded); spine leaning; crown chipped; corners bumped. Front hinge broken at half-title page, separated from front endpapers and backstrip; endpapers foxed and soiled. Dust jacket tattered, lacking about half of the spine panel; spine panel faded; rear panel lightly soiled. Fair, but with exceptional provenance. From the Estate of Mickey Spillane.
