New York: Duell, Sloan, & Pearce, [1949]. First edition, first printing stated.Octavo. 319; 295; 293; 223 pages. Publisher's stamped black cloth; original illustrated dust jackets. Corners bumped and rubbed, minor edgewear, head and foot of spines pushed and somewhat worn. Endpapers unevenly toned. Internally generally clean; minor intermittent soiling, minor text block edgewear, Tiger with ink ownership stamp to front pastedowns, Clues with some dampstaining and ink stamps to rear free endpaper verso, rear hinge starting. Three dust jackets unclipped ($2.00-$2.50), Clues clipped; moderate edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine panels, somewhat rubbed. Clues with some dampstaining and reinforced on verso with brown paper tape. Russian Hill with heavy edgewear with partial splitting along folds, irregular open tearing to head and foot of spine with approximately 0.5-1 inch loss, some cello tape and tape residue on verso. Very good books with fair to very good dust jackets.
Offord was a long-time Sherlockian and the first women given "titular investiture" into the Baker Street Irregulars as "The Old Russian Woman."
