    John Russell. The Red Mark and Other Stories. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1919. First edition, likely first issue (top edge stained red). Octavo. 397 pages. Publisher's red-stamped grey cloth; original illustrated dust jacket printed to yellow paper. Minor edgewear, foot of spine just pushed. Rear endpapers slightly toned, bookseller's ticket to front pastedown. Internally generally clean; top edge stained red, a few pages slightly creased, pages unevenly toned, minor edgewear. Dust jacket unclipped (no price listed); moderate edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine panel, spine sunned, small open tear in back panel, 1-inch closed tear in foot of spine at fold, somewhat rubbed, reinforced on verso with clear tape. Very good book with good dust jacket. A beautiful copy of the book Conan Doyle called, "the best book of short tales by any debutant since Kipling's Plain Tales." Queen's Quorum #62.
