John [Ross] Macdonald. The Moving Target. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1949. First edition, inscribed by the author on the title-page: "To Ron Hall / with all good wishes, / John Macdonald." Octavo (7.5 x 5.125 inches; 190 x 130 mm.). [2, blank], [iv], 245, [1, blank], [1, note on the type], [3, blank] pages. Publisher's yellowish pink cloth, stamped and lettered in dark green; top edge stained red, others rough-trimmed; in original restored dust jacket. Backstrip dulled; spine just slightly askew; bottom edge rubbed with wear to corners and foot of spine; small, faint tidemark to fore edge of rear board.
