John Dickson Carr. The Lost Gallows. New York: Harper & Brothers, 1931. First edition. Inscribed by Carr. Octavo. [viii], 344 pages. Publisher's full orange cloth, front board and spine stamped in black. In the rare original publisher's dust jacket. Printed tissue-paper "seal" lacking. Soiling to cloth, and spine slightly faded. The tissue-paper "seal" remnants present at the gutter margin of the rear free endpaper. The jacket is soiled and browned, and darkened on the spine from sunning, with chipping around the edges and small dampstains. Slightly skewed. Inscribed on the front free endpaper by John Dickson Carr in six lines to Henry Tatnall Brown, with Brown's book plate mounted on the front pastedown endpaper (darkening from the glue at corners). Altogether, still a good copy, with a nice inscription from the author.
