    Description

James M. Cain. The Postman Always Rings Twice. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1934. Publisher's prospectus or salesman dummy. Octavo (7.375 x 4.875 inches; 187 x 126 mm.). 16 pages of text, remaining leaves blank. Publisher's light brown cloth, stamped and lettered in blue, varying from the trade issue which was bound in orange cloth; top edge of the text block stained blue, others trimmed. Almost imperceptible shelf wear at extremities; spine ends barely pushed. Nearly fine. Housed in custom dark blue clamshell; black spine label lettered in gilt (just a touch dust-soiled, the cloth coming up along one side of spine label). Uncommon, one of presumably very few copies produced, with a single previous auction record found in Rare Book Hub (Swann, 2012). The Dark Page 48 (first edition); a Haycraft Queen Cornerstone. From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
