    More Information: James M. Cain. Serenade Prospectus. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1937. Prospectus for the first edition. Octavo (7.5 x 5.125 inches; 190 x 130 mm.). [2], 26 pages. Original purple and green illustrated wrappers, lettered in black, serving as a mockup for the first edition dust jacket. Housed in custom clamshell, one-quarter dark red leather over dark red cloth; spine lettered in gilt. Propsectus perhaps a touch toned; slight joint wear at clamshell. Else, a very fine copy and a rare piece of ephemera advertising the release of Cain's second novel, containing the title-page, first chapter, and a specifications leaf. Adapted for film in 1956, directed by Anthony Mann and starring Mario Lanza, Joan Fontaine and Vincent Price. From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.
