Publisher's dark brown cloth, front board stamped in blind with large skeletal hand design, spine lettered in gilt with publisher's device in gilt at foot; all edges trimmed; plain white endpapers. In original first-issue dust jacket, designed by Richard Chopping, with printed price of 15s. net on the front flap. Spine gently leaning; front board with a small blemish (just below the gap between the pointer and middle fingers). Top edge of text block foxed; small (approximately one-eighth inch in diameter) stain on the rear pastedown. Dust jacket spine panel just barely dulled; soft wrinkling to the upper edge of the front panel; top and bottom margins of both flaps faintly toned. Near fine.
