Herbert Adams. The Paulton Plot. London: Methuen & Co., . First edition. Octavo. vi, 282 pages. Publisher's light red cloth, spine stamped in gilt; top and fore-edges of text block trimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Mild lean to spine; spine ends dulled and just a bit pushed and worn; small gouge toward middle of spine tiny amount of speckle-soiling toward top of boards; top and bottom edges of boards slightly soiled and worn. Text block very slightly dulled with age, particularly at edges; some light staining and a few spots of foxing at edges; clippings affixed to front free endpaper under glassine, with previous owner inked and penciled notes; occasional spots of soiling scattered throughout margins at interior. Jacket generally a bit tanned, with a moderate amount of rubbing and soiling; chipping at spine panel ends, reinforced with clear tape at verso; small hole at lower half of spine panel, covered with clear tape at verso; handful of closed tears with associated creasing at front and rear panels, all reinforced with tape at verso; flap fold ends creased and a bit worn, with nicking at ends and a short tear extending down from head of rear flap fold; top edges of flaps a bit rumpled. Verso unevenly yellowed from age with some slight rubbing. Near fine book in a very good jacket.

Publisher's light brown cloth, spine and front lettered in black; top edge of text block trimmed. General smudging and spot-staining to cloth; spine skewed; spine ends softened and worn; wear along joints; board edges worn, particularly at corners, and bumped. Text block softly dulled, particularly along edges; top edge darkened and a bit soiled; remaining edges foxed, with a small spot of rubbing at bottom corner; endpapers foxed, especially front; partially effaced ink marks at front pastedown; occasional marginal foxing or spot-soiling scattered throughout interior; one or two instances of previous dog-earing. Very good.
