Four volumes in publisher's cloth, three with spines lettered in black, one in gilt, one volume in publisher's perfect binding with brown paper wrappers; all text block edges trimmed; four volumes in original illustrated dust jackets. Handful of spine ends crimped; backstrip of proof copy skewed, with creases along vertical length, just starting to flake at foot; Slip boards with occasional faint smudge of soiling, discoloration along bottom edges; Slip proof copy with some light rumpling and creasing to wrappers from handling. Text blocks very softly dulled from age; a few top edges slightly dusty; spot of soiling at front free endpaper of Declare; bookseller tickets at rear pastedowns of Sleeping Car and Declare; first and last few leaves of Slip proof copy slightly rumpled, particularly toward edges. Very light edge wear to jackets, particularly at spine and flap fold ends, with a bit of nicking at edges of Slip jacket; general light rubbing to exposed panels, with occasional faint spot of foxing or soiling at rear panels; soft creasing and wear to folds; upper front flap corner of Sleeping Car chipped away. Near fine to fine books in near fine jackets.
