Fergus Hume. Group of Four John Long Books. London: 1900-1902. First editions
Fergus Hume. The Crimson Cryptogram. London: John Long, 1900. First edition. [Together with:] A Traitor in London. London: John Long, 1900. First edition. [And:] The Golden Wang-Ho. A Sensational Story. London: John Long, 1901. First edition. [And:] The Turnpike House. London: John Long, [1902]. First edition. Four volumes. Octavo. Various paginations. Publisher's cloth (three red, one black), spines lettered in gilt, three fronts stamped in white and black, one in yellow, red and orange; bottom edges of text block untrimmed. Spine ends pushed and worn, with small chip out of head of Traitor in London spine and some soft creasing extending into backstrip; backstrips slightly faded, with some spot-soiling, and spine lettering of Wang-Ho mostly gone; light wear along joints; boards rubbed with some mild soiling and surface scratches; wear and bumping along edges and at corners. Text blocks softly dulled with age (Crimson Cryptogram moderately browned), particularly at edges; two text blocks with foxing at fore-edges; three faintly dust-soiled along top edge; both hinges of Traitor in London and front hinge of Turnpike House splitting, but still sound; previous owner inking at front free endpaper; three volumes with occasional, marginal foxing and spot-soiling scattered throughout interiors. Very good.
