With a warm, full-page inscription signed and dated in the year of publication by Gardner on the front free endpaper. Octavo. 245, [2, publisher's catalog] pages. Publisher's red cloth with black titles. Original pictorial dust jacket. Minor edge wear to book. Light rubbing to jacket, with mild chipping at the bottom edge. Very good.

    From the collection of Hedwig "Hedy" Antonia Roripaugh, who worked as a secretary and assistant for mystery writer Earle Stanley Gardner, at his Rancho Paisano near Temecula California, from around 1946 until the mid 1960s. She was married in 1947 to Louis "Louie"  Roripaugh, who worked as the manager of Pauba Ranch in Temecula. Some of the inscriptions and letters in the collection are to Louie or to both Hedy and Louie.
