    Description

Edgar Allan Poe. Arthur Rackham (illustrator). Tales of Mystery and Imagination. London: George C. Harrap & Co., [1935]. First Rackham edition, deluxe issue, limited to 460 copies, of which this is number 295, and signed by the illustrator. Quarto in eights (10.375 x 7.75 inches; 264 x 195 mm.). [2, blank], 317, [318], [2, blank] pages; frontispiece and eleven additional color plates inserted throughout, captioned tissue-guards; seventeen black and white illustrated plates inserted throughout. Publisher's vellum, spine and front board lettered and stamped in gilt; top edge gilt, others untrimmed; in original slipcase, printed paper label affixed to spine, copy number written in manuscript ink. Boards just barely splayed, trace faint soiling; top corners just a touch bumped. Slipcases edges stressed with splitting and wear, though it's still sound. A remarkable, nearly fine copy. From the KoKo Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
