    More Information:

Earl Derr Biggers. The Black Camel. Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, [1929]. First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author in the year of publication on the front free endpaper: "To / Harold C[---] / May we meet / frequently over / another glass of the 'light' / - and elsewhere - / Earl Derr Biggers / Pasadena / June 16, 1929." Octavo. 312 pages [note: first leaf blank]. Publisher's light bluish-gray cloth, front board and spine lettered in red; in original first-state dust jacket, with reviews for four Bobbs Merrill titles on the rear panel, rubber stamped designating this for review applied to the front panel in black ink. Spine gently leaning; light wear to spine ends and corners. Top edge of text block lightly dust-soiled. Dust jacket edges worn with chipping to edges of fold and spine ends, largest just barely affecting the "T" in "THE," with large closed tear (nearly two-inches) extending to front panel, mended by tape on the verso; folds starting to split; large dampstain to lower half of the jacket, wrapping around spine panel, causing some lettering to fade; tape shadow remains from piece since removed at foot of spine. A near fine copy in a good-only dust jacket. The fourth Charlie Chan mystery. Adapted for the screen in 1931. From the KoKo Collection.
