Dr. C. W. Doyle. The Shadow of Quong Lung. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1900. First edition. Signed by the author on the recipient's bookplate (affixed to the front pastedown). Additionally, this book is inscribed by the cover artist on the front free endpaper: "From E. S. Halloway, designer of cover + title, / Nov. 8. 1899." Beneath this inscription is the signature of the book's owner, who's name is on the bookplate (Paul Lemperly). Octavo. 267, [1, blank], [4, ads] pages. Publisher's full tan cloth, front board decoratively stamped in dark and light blue and red, and spine stamped in dark blue and red. In the rare original publisher's dust jacket. Cloth spine a bit toned and rubbed, headcap bumped. Minor rubbing, thumbsoiling to boards. Light thumbsoiling and offsetting to endleaves. Jacket spine toned and quite chipped, with some loss of text. Jacket panels toned at edges, soiled, chipped and worn, with some tears along the front joint and front flap joint. Still, a very good copy of this rare mystery, seldom found in jacket. Housed in clamshell case.
