    More Information:

Dashiell Hammett. The Thin Man. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1934. First edition. Octavo. [2, blank], [viii], 258, [259], [1, note on the type], [2, blank] pages. Publisher's light bluish-green cloth, front board ruled in red with mask stamped in dark blue; spine stamped in red and blue, outlining text, and lettered in blue; publisher's device outlined with red stamp on rear board; top edge stained dark red; in original dust jacket (red variant). Cloth dulled at backstrip and board edges and slightly mottled at rear board; spine leaning just slightly; bottom edges very lightly worn, with board barely exposed at one corner. Some insignificant wear to the top edge of the text block; very faint offsetting to endpapers. Dust jacket rubbed with some color loss to the front panel; soft vertical crease through middle of the spine panel; horizontal crease of almost three inches to lower portion of spine and front panels; rear panel lightly soiled with small bruise near spine fold; edges worn; few short closed tears with paper tape repairs on verso; spine panel faintly dulled; book-of-the-month club sticker (no bibliographic significance). An about very good copy of an easily-worn book. Basis for the hugely-successful MGM adaptation directed by W. S. Van Dyke and starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles. Layman A 6.1.a. From the KoKo Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
