Publisher's light green smooth V-cloth, front board ruled in red with broken key stamped in dark green; spine stamped in red and green, outlining text, and lettered in dark green; publisher's device outlined with dark green stamp on rear board; top edge stained dark red, others rough-trimmed; in original second-state dust jacket, trimmed slightly shorter, with reviews of this title on the front flap. Backstrip and board edges dulled; cloth splitting at spine ends with some light fraying; bottom edge worn; boards lightly soiled with a couple minor stains to rear board. Previous owner signature. Dust jacket spine panel dulled with green ink appearing yellow; edges lightly worn with a couple chips to the crown; folds worn with some flaking; minor soiling to verso. Very good. Source material for two major films, released in 1935 and 1942, the latter starring Brian Donlevy, Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd. Layman A4.2.a. A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. The Dark Page 134.
