Mild shelf wear at extremities of binding; slight wear along joints; a bit of rubbing to cloth with slight loss to gilt title at spine; bottom end of spine gently pushed; soft bumping to corners. Normal age toning to edges of text block with speckles of foxing, several bleeding into extreme margins of pages; some light scuffing, bumping and small gouges to edge of text block. Some light scattered foxing, mostly marginal, to first and last few leaves of text block; a handful of leaves with some soft creasing or dimpling from bumps to edge of text block. Mild rubbing and light soiling to exposed panels of jacket; handful of barely visible archival repairs along top and bottom edges of exposed panels and creases, including one approximately 3 inches long extending from rear flap fold into rear panel; tiny split starting along rear flap fold. A few spots of very faint foxing at verso. About near fine. Adapted several times for film, television and theater, beginning with Alfred Hitchcock's Academy Award-winning 1940 film version starring Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. A Haycraft Queen Cornerstone.
