Description

Arthur Conan Doyle. Twelve Sherlock Holmes Stories in Their Original Strand Magazine Issues. London: George Newnes, 1891-1926. Fifteen issues of The Strand Magazine with the first printed appearances of twelve complete Sherlock Holmes stories, along with the second half of "A Reminiscence of Mr. Sherlock Holmes" (October 1908). Illustrations by Sidney Paget, Walter Paget, Arthur Twidle, A. Gilbert, and Howard Elcock.

Six of the issues have had most or all of their advertisements removed [April 1904, February 1922, January 1925, February 1925, March 1925, and October 1926], few loose or detached covers, rear cover of April 1904 missing. Three copies are housed in modern custom printed slipcases.

Covers with varying degrees of edge wear, corner bends, creases, tears, chips, minor paper losses, staining and soiling, few with pen or pencil marks. Some have rusted staples. July 1904 front and back covers over glued affecting facing advertisement pages. Most issues with chips or some degree of paper loss to spines; few with cellophane tape and tape remnants along spines. Pages with edge wear, minor smudging or soiling, some over-opened pages, occasional foxing and minor dampstains, few bookseller's pencil marks. Overall a very good collection of Doyle's classic Sherlock Holmes stories as they first appeared in The Strand.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
