    First U. S. appearance of the classic Sherlock Holmes story "The Hound of the Baskervilles" serialized in nine issues of The Strand Magazine (September 1901 to May 1902). Illustrations by Sidney Paget.

    Twelve issues of The Strand Magazine (August 1901 - July 1902) bound in two cloth volumes with original front covers bound in, most in color. Magazine title and volume numbers "22" and "23" respectively printed in black on spines.

    January 1902 issue with tears along gutter, first page of The Hound of the Baskervilles installment [603]/604 with three inch vertical tear into text, smaller margin tears. Soling and dampstaining.

    February 1902 pages 79-82 (not in The Hound of the Baskervilles) cut out.

    March 1902 lacks title page, contents page with edge tears, soiling and minor paper loss in upper margin.

    April 1902 pages 291 and 292 cut out (not affecting The Hound of the Baskervilles)

    May 1902 with tears and minor paper losses (also not in The Hound of the Baskervilles).

    Pages in general with light edge wear, occasional smudging or soiling. Overall very good.
