Inscribed by the author on the title-page: "From A Conan Doyle / to / Colonel Bowles." Octavo (9.625 x 5.75 inches; 220 x 146 mm.). [4], 408, [4, blank] pages; frontispiece and seven additional illustrated plates inserted throughout. Publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, front board ruled in blind. Spine a little askew; spine ends pushed with just a touch of wear; corners bumped. Front hinge cracked but still secure; page edges and occasionally margins foxed; light intermittent marginal soiling. Very good. From the collection of Bob Terry.
