Anna Katharine Green. The Amethyst Box. Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1905. First edition. Octavo. [4], 298 pages. Frontispiece and one additional inserted plate on coated paper. Publisher's full red cloth; spine lettered in black; front with full-color illustrated paper label reproducing front panel of dust jacket. Original illustrated dust jacket. All edges trimmed. Slight lean at spine; very minor shelf wear at extremities of binding. A touch of dust-soiling to top edge of text block; regular age toning to other edges and interior. Decorative gift card tipped to front pastedown; rear hinge splitting between text block and endpaper, but still sound; one leaf rumpled at lower corner with tear extending inward from fore-edge. Jacket mildly toned recto and verso with slight rubbing at exposed panels; tiny chips at ends of spine panel, slightly larger ones along top edge of rear panel and bottom edge of front; front flap fold mostly split from top and bottom with about 1.5" of fold remaining. Near fine book in an about near fine jacket.

Frontispiece and six additional inserted plates on coated paper, by Alice Barber Stephens; one in-text plan. Publisher's full green cloth; spine lettered in black; front lettered in gilt and decorated in black with full-color illustrated paper label. Original illustrated dust jacket. All edges trimmed. Slight shelf wear at extremities of binding; a bit of wear at joints; spine ends gently pushed. Normal age toning to edges and interior of text block. Jacket lightly rubbed and toned at exposed panels; mild wear at edges and joints with a tiny amount of paper loss at spine and flap fold ends; some general minor rubbing, scuffing; closed tears at rear panel and base of spine; flaps clipped. A few tape repairs at verso. Near fine in a very good jacket. From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.
