Agatha Christie. The Patriotic Murders. A Poirot Mystery. New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1941. First U. S. edition. Octavo. , 240, [6, blank] pages. Publisher's red cloth, spine and front lettered in black; fore-edge untrimmed, top edge stained red; original illustrated dust jacket. Spine skewed; spot of soiling and speck of loss to surface of cloth at bottom of backstrip; wear to edges and joints of binding; boards rubbed; top edges darkened just a shade; cloth worn through at bottom corners. Text block slightly dulled; top edge darkened with a handful of tiny scratches; bottom edge rubbed with a few small stains; penciling effaced from front free endpaper and rear pastedown; bottom corner of text block bumped, causing some soft creasing to numerous pages; previous dog-earing and mostly marginal spot- and thumb-soiling scattered throughout. Chipping at spine and flap fold ends, with series of short tears at ends of panel folds and at edges of front and rear panels, most closed, including one approximately 2.5 inches long at head of rear panel fold; exposed panels fairly rubbed and soiled; creasing to folds resulting in slight weakening of paper and small areas of color loss, with tiny hole at rear panel fold; flaps clipped. Verso tanned; tape repairs at spine ends. Very good.
