    A[rthur] Conan Doyle. The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes. London: George Newnes, Oct. 1921-April 1927. Original monthly serial issue in The Strand Magazine, complete with every story that comprises The Case-Book. Fourteen volumes. Octavo (9.5 x 6.5 inches; 240 x 164 mm.). Various paginations. Numerous full-page and in-text illustrations; opening Sherlock stories preceded by full-page illustrations by Howard Elcock and Frank Wiles, with in-text illustrations by them. Publisher's original full-color paper wrappers; October 1921 issue printed in red and blue. Text blocks side-stapled. Housed in custom clamshell, one quarter book-backed navy morocco over navy cloth; spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands. Varying amounts of wear to wrappers and particularly backstrips, many of which are chipped at ends with some loss to volume and issue numbers; backstrip somewhat mangled and coming up from April 1927 issue. Some joints weakening with rear wrappers starting to split from bottom on three issues. Occasional rust from staples offsetting onto wrappers, surrounding leaves. Overall mild toning to wrappers and text blocks. March 1923 issue with leaf removed from ads (pages 53-54). Full checklist of issues available online.
