A[rthur] Conan Doyle. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. London: George Newnes, July 1891-June 1892. Original monthly serial issue in The Strand Magazine, complete with every story that comprises The Adventures. Twelve volumes. Octavo (9.625 x 6.625 inches; 245 x 165 mm.). Various paginations. Each issue with frontispiece, numerous in-text and full-page illustrations; Holmes stories with in-text illustrations by Sidney Paget. Publisher's original engraved light blue wrappers, printed in dark blue. Text blocks side-stapled. Housed in custom clamshell, one-quarter book-backed black morocco over black cloth; spine lettered in gilt with five raised bands. Wrappers generally a bit edge-worn, with a varied amount of toning to backstrips and wrappers; some soft creasing; overall mild soiling; staples exposed in all parts, most a bit rusty with some offsetting onto versos of wrappers. Some backstrips beginning to come up from text blocks, most chipped at top and bottom, some affecting issue numbering; one or both wrappers starting to split on four issues, though all still sound. Inking to margins of most front wrappers. Three issues with purple newsagent's stamp on front wrapper. Two issues with a few leaves each roughly trimmed or opened. Small hole at rear wrapper of August 1891 issue; February 1892 issue lacking first leaf of front ads, with a chunk torn out of final ad leaf; corner torn from first leaf of ads in April 1892 issue. Last two issues with final ad slip mostly or completely detached and laid in. Normal toning with some foxing and occasional thumbsoiling scattered throughout interiors. Very good overall. Full checklist of issues available online.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
