Large octavo (9.125 x 6.25 inches; 232 x 160 mm.). [iv], 317, [1], [2, blank] pages; in-text illustrations. Publisher's light blue cloth over boards with beveled edges, spine ruled, tooled, stamped and lettered in gilt and black, front board lettered in gilt and stamped in black with street scene vignette in first state with no text on the street sign; all edges gilt; floral endpapers. [Together with:] The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes. London: George Newnes, 1894. First edition. Large octavo (9.125 x 6.25 inches; 232 x 160 mm.). [viii], 279, [1, blank] pages; preliminary full-page illustration and in-text illustrations by Sidney Paget. Publisher's dark blue cloth over boards with beveled edges, spine ruled, tooled, stamped and lettered in gilt and black, front board lettered in gilt and stamped in black with street scene vignette; all edges gilt; floral endpapers. General wear; spines leaning (more so on Adventures), spine ends and corners worn; joints worn, cloth splitting on the rear joint of Memoirs with seam along the front joint but any signs that it has been rebacked would have to be masked by old wear, as it the spine ends and joints seem untouched; Adventures boards rubbed and soiled, most spine gilt worn away. All four hinges cracked, front hinge of Adventures broken with the underside of the cloth visible with traces of old glue remnants; over-opened throughout with a couple gatherings slightly sprung; both text blocks somewhat sagging; Adventures with light foxing throughout. Good, Memoirs slightly better. Queen's Quorum 16 (Adventures). Haycraft-Queen Cornerstones. From the collection of Bob Terry.
