Publisher's green cloth over beveled boards, spine stamped in gilt, boards stamped in blind; all text block edges trimmed and gilt; purple endpapers. Spine skewed; spine ends gently pushed and a bit worn; minor wear along joints; mild rubbing to boards; light wear and bumping to edges and corners. Gatherings slightly jostled, a couple sprung, but still sound; top edge dusty with gilding a bit tarnished; a couple of hairline splits starting at front hinge; previous owner bookplate at front pastedown detached and laid in, leaving behind a rectangle of residue; previous owner signature at front free endpaper; interior of text block softly dulled from age; spine split between a handful of gatherings, but still sound. Near fine. With bookplate of Edgar Wadsworth Smith. ALS from English bookseller Bertram Rota laid in, along with his catalog description. Goldscheider 558.
