Signed and inscribed by one of the authors to Otto Penzler to the half-title page, "To / Otto Penzler / with much / gratitude for his / outrageous flattery. / Anthony Shaffer." Octavo. 185 pages. Publisher's red-stamped beige cloth; original illustrated dust jacket. Corners just bumped, minor edgewear. Ink ownership to front free endpaper recto. Internally clean. Dust jacket unevenly clipped; minor edgewear, some soiling on back panel. Very good book with very good dust jacket. Published in England under the pseudonym Peter Antony (London: Evans, 1952); the detective's name is also changed from Mr. Verity to Mr. Fathom for the American edition. Publisher's black-stamped yellow cloth; original illustrated dust jacket. Very minor edgewear. Internally clean; minor edgewear. Dust jacket unevenly clipped; moderate edgewear, some soiling on back panel, somewhat rubbed, some chipping to head and foot of spine panel, reinforced on verso with clear tape. Near fine book with very good dust jacket. The detective's name is changed from Mr. Verity (London: Gollancz, 1955) to Mr. Fathom for the American edition.
