[Mickey Spillane]. Tony Varady's Original Painting for I, the Jury. Circa 1947. Matted to a size of 10 x 8 inches, in a frame measuring 18.75 x 15 inches. Accompanied by first Signet edition hardback and paperback copies of I, the Jury. Books in good condition, covers somewhat rubbed and worn with some staining, text blocks moderately toned with light foxing, dust jacket rubbed and chipped with loss. Original painting bright and fine, a perfect example of classic pulp cover illustrations. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.

    More Information:

I, the Jury was the debut novel of Mickey Spillane featuring what would come to be his most popular character, Detective Mike Hammer. Spillane wrote the novel in nineteen days and submitted the draft to E. P. Dutton, the publisher that would eventually release the first hardback edition. The Signet publication followed with Tony Varady's more pulp detective style cover, and the story attracted more and more readers with its then-salacious violent and sexual content. When confronted by critics, Spillane stood by the idea that "If the public likes you, you're good."

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
