[x], 309, [310: about the author] pages. Publisher's black quarter-cloth, spine lettered in red, with light greyish green paper boards, in original dust jacket. Just a hint of tanning to edges of boards, a fine copy in nearly fine dust jacket with touch of wear at spine ends.

    Crichton's first book of fiction. Edgar award winner for best first novel. Source for the 1972 film The Carey Treatment, directed by Blake Edwards.
