Octavo (7.9375 x 5.25 inches; 201 x 135 mm.). 291, [1, blank] pages. Publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered in dark blue; top edge of the text block stained reddish-orange, fore-edge untrimmed, bottom edge trimmed; plain endpapers; in the original dust jacket. Backstrip just barely faded; spine ends very softly pushed; touch of wear along the bottom edge. Top edge of the text just a little dusty; endpapers very lightly foxed. Dust jacket slightly worn along the edges and folds, few minor nicks to the spine ends with tiny chips to the fold edge; a couple crimps to the lower fore-edge margin of the front panel, causing minor color loss; rear board very lightly rubbed; price-clipped. Near fine in a very good, but still fresh, dust jacket. A Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone. The first novel Woolrich wrote under his William Irish pseudonym. Source for Robert Siodmak's 1944 film noir starring Ella Raines and Franchot Tone. The Dark Page 290. From the Otto Penzler Collection of Mystery Fiction.
