[Agatha Christie]. Giant's Bread. By Mary Westmacott (pseudonym). Garden City: Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1930. First U. S. edition. Octavo. [10], 358 pages. Publisher's black cloth with illustrated paper label affixed to spine and front; top edge stained orange, fore-edge untrimmed; original illustrated dust jacket. Bottom end of spine slightly pushed with just a trace of wear; boards just slightly bowed; evidence of damp at rear board; mild shelf wear at extremities of binding; upper corners tapped. Text block dulled; top edge slightly scratched with topstain fading; small rubbed spot at bottom edge; mild spot-staining and soiling at endpapers and scattered throughout at margins. General rubbing to jacket; spine panel sunned just a shade, with a few nicks out of each end; creasing at and running parallel to panel folds, with chipping particularly at top ends; further chipping, short tears, and rumpling along top edges of front and rear panels; staining to rear panel extending to bottom corner of rear flap; creasing and wear to flap folds, with paper loss at ends; flaps clipped. Faint foxing at verso, with tidemarks at each flap fold; dark staining to verso of rear panel, appears to be from damp; tape reinforcements removed, along with surface of paper, at spine ends and top of flap folds. Near fine book in a good jacket. The first of Christie's pseudonymous novels.
