    Over Seventy Large Plates of Organs
    from the Middle Ages and Renaissance

    Arthur George Hill. The Organ-Cases and Organs of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. [First] and Second Series. London: David Bogue, 1883 [and] London: Printed for the Author by Charles Whittingham and Co, 1891. Two large folios. First Series: 134 pages. Thirty-nine full page facsimiles of original drawings by the author. Second Series: 102 pages. Thirty-six facsimiles of original drawings by the author. Both have printer's devices on title pages and tail-pieces. Matching blue cloth covered boards, covers gilt ruled with corner fleurons, gilt titles to front covers, gilt titles and decorations to spines. Boards rubbed, scuffed, and lightly soiled; cloth frayed at corners and both upper joints; library bookplates of Philadelphia architects Rankin and Kellogg on both front pastedowns, occasional minor smudges and stains, few small edge tears, and occasional light scuffing to plate borders. First series: twelve inch scratch to rear board, small stains lower edge of text block; tear and crease near half-title's gutter, two small holograph pencil annotations on page vi of Preface, small paper repairs to half-title and vii, eleven plates lacking tissue guards, small chip in lower corner of I1, Q1 is loose, paper repair along upper margin of U2, small paper repairs to plates twenty-nine and thirty along lower borders, last page toned. Second series: holograph pencil names on half-title, plate sixteen is loose, hinge split at P1 and P2, fold-out plate twenty-eight has some fold separations, small tape repair to lower edge of plate thirty-five, pages lightly browned in borders. Overall a beautiful set of books in good condition.
