    Description

Mickey Spillane. I, the Jury. New York: E. P. Dutton & Company, 1947. First edition. Inscribed by the author to his mother and father: " Dear Ma and Dad - / For such a skinny / book they took a long time putting it / out... but I hope is the beginning of luck for all of us... Better not let / any of your children read it! / Love - your son / Mickey." Octavo. 218, [6, blank] pages. Publisher's black paper-covered boards, front board and spine stamped in red, dust jacket. Boards stained, spine slightly leaning, front joint starting, loss on head of spine, corners bumped. Text block detached from backstrip with binding secured at rear hinge, top and tail edges faintly foxed and dust soiled, a few gatherings shaken, endpapers mildly foxed with a touch of dust soiling on hinges, text block starting to split at pp. 176-177, rear pastedown lifting. Dust jacket recto and verso somewhat rubbed and soiled, upper portion of front panel a bit dampstained, two small holes in spine panel with sizeable open tear on tail, rear flap has minor stain on lower margin; front and rear panel and spine affected by large loss. A good, fragile copy with an endearing inscription of hope for Spillane's first book and introduction to the character Mike Hammer. From the estate of Mickey Spillane.
