Signed Twice and Inscribed by Houdini

[Harry] Houdini. Miracle Mongers and Their Methods. New York: E. P. Dutton & Company, [1920]. First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by Houdini on the front free endpaper in green ink: "Best wishes/Houdini/April 10/1923". Additionally signed by Houdini on the dedication page. Octavo. [2], [xv], 240 pages. With inserted frontispiece portrait. Publisher's full brown cloth, front board and spine stamped and lettered in black. Spine toned and worn, some rubbing and mild wear to boards, some red dampstaining on rear board, a bit skewed. Previous owner's bookplates on both pastedowns, ownership signatures and ink-stamps (different owners) on the first several leaves (including the front free endpaper and dedication pages, but these markings don't interfere with Houdini's writing). Overall, a very good copy.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
