    Description

William Withering. An Account of the Foxglove. And some of its medicinal uses... Birmingham: Printed by M. Swinney, 1785. First edition. Octavo. title, xx, [2], 207, [1] pages; lacking half-title. Large, hand-colored folding frontispiece plate of a foxglove plant and physical parts; split along three folds and paper loss along gutter but not affecting image, minor foxing. Contemporary full tree calf, black leather spine label lettered in gilt. Both boards detached but present, corners bumped and rubbed, spine chipped and worn with losses, moderate edgewear with losses. White endpapers; library bookplate and pencil notations to front pastedown, some offsetting, free endpapers detached but present. Internally generally clean, all edges trimmed; minor foxing, some offsetting, minor pencil notations to back of text block. Very good despite binding with a particularly bright and stunning plate.

Though foxglove was already a widely used folk remedy, Withering's text was the first to establish and record correct dosages and physiological effects.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
