W[ilhelm] C[onrad] Röntgen. "On a New Kind of Rays." From Nature, a Weekly Illustrated Journal of Science, Volume LIII. London: [1895-1896]. One of the earliest articles on X-Rays in English. Translated from the original German by Arthur Stanton. Quarto. xl, [1]-634 pages. "On a New Kind of Rays" appears on pages 274-276, with early published illustrations of x-rayed hands and a compass. On pages 276-277 is an article by A. A. C. Swinton about Röntgen's discovery. Bound in contemporary full green pebbled cloth, boards ruled in blind, spine ruled and lettered in gilt, speckled edges. Some rubbing, mild thumbsoiling to binding, a faint tear to front joint at upper edge. Endleaves a bit toned and foxed, inkstamps of the Philosophical Society of Glasgow on the front free endpaper and title-page. Text a bit toned and foxed, edges foxed. Very good. Housed in quarter green morocco clamshell case. Garrison-Morton 2683. See PMM 380.
